9:00AM - Noon · Air Layering to Create Bonsai Join us for our regular
monthly meeting to learn the propagation technique of air layering. Its purpose
is to create bonsai from relatively large trunks or branches. Bring your own
tree or buy something at the nursery and once we learn how it is done, we'll
break into a workshop and perform an air-layer on your own tree. A tropical or
semi tropical tree such as a ficus, pomegranate, or crape myrtle would be good
candidates, as well as any deciduous tree. All are welcome to participate or
just observe. A utility or small Exacto knife will come in handy, along with a
small plastic bag. By the Bonsai Society of Dallas

3pm · Xerophytic Ferns by the Southwest Fern Society of Dallas. XEROPHYTIC FERNS are the "resurrection
ferns". They have the ability to go dormant for months. During
this time, they curl up and turn brown, but they revive and turn
green again when rain arrives. They begin life in rock fractures, beside
boulders, under shrubs, or in other sheltered areas that provide a microclimate
that is cooler, shadier, and more humid than the surrounding environment. Xerophytic ferns are excellent in dry, shady and dappled sun areas.
